The sixth “I AM” statement

A. Jesus Prepares the Disciples for His Departure (Chapter 13).

1. It was His last Passover before the Cross and His death.

2. He washed the feet of His disciples.

3. He reveals His betrayal.

4. He revealed Peter would deny Him.

B. The Promise of Heaven

1.“Let not your heart be troubled” (v. 1).

2. Many mansions in His Father’s house (v. 2).

3. “I go to prepare a place for you” (v. 3).

4. “And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know” (v. 4).

C. The “I AM” to Answer a Disciple’s Question

1. How can we know the way? (v. 5).

2. A good question for us all.

Proverbs 14:12, There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

A. Christ is the Way

1. Not, “I will show you the way.”

2. Not, “Here is a way.”

3. You cannot follow Jesus to heaven.

4. Salvation comes through faith in Christ.

5. The Way was one of the earliest names for the Christian faith.

B. Christ is the Truth

1. Truth speaks of knowledge.

2. Truth speaks of character.

3. Truth about heaven.

C. Christ is the Life

1. “I AM . . . Life”

2. Life is precious, but sin has brought death.

3. Only Jesus provides life that lasts forever (The Way, The Truth, The Life).
